Meloni explained how to force Russia to peace
Economic pressure on Russia is the most effective method for achieving peace in Ukraine.
This was stated by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as reported by RBC-Ukraine citing Reuters.

The head of the Italian government commented on whether Europe should ease the ban on importing Russian gas.
“The economic pressure we have exerted on Russia in recent years is the most effective weapon for achieving peace, so we must be very careful in our next steps,” Meloni said in response.
She also expressed hope that progress towards peace between Ukraine and Russia would occur before a complete ban on importing Russian gas.
Meloni’s statement came after Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Italy’s largest oil and gas company Eni, stated that it is unclear what could replace 20 billion cubic meters of Russian LNG.
Ban on importing Russian LNG
Recall that according to the decision of EU countries, a complete ban on the import of liquefied natural gas from Russia is set to take effect in 2027.
However, amid the war between the US and Iran, supplies of Russian LNG to Europe have sharply increased.
According to the Financial Times, in the first quarter of 2026, imports from the Siberian “Yamal LNG” project increased by 17%.
