Ukrainian tennis player has prematurely ended her participation in Austria: what is known at the moment

Unexpected withdrawal of the Ukrainian
Today, April 9, Kalinina (WTA 120) was scheduled to take to the court against Croatian Donna Vekic (WTA 104). The match promised to be significant, but the Ukrainian decided to withdraw from the tournament.
The official reason for this decision remains unknown – neither the organizers nor the athlete herself have provided additional comments regarding a possible injury or illness.
Due to the Ukrainian’s withdrawal, Donna Vekic, who is a silver medalist from the 2024 Olympics, automatically received a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Kalinina’s journey in Linz
Angelina’s performance in Austria was full of dramatic twists:
Qualification: The Ukrainian lost in the final round of qualifying to “neutral” Belarusian Alexandra Sasnovich.
Chance for revenge: Thanks to the withdrawal of Czech player Sara Bejlek, Kalinina received a spot in the main draw as a “lucky loser.”
Victory in the main draw: In the first round, Angelina defeated Hungarian Panna Udvardy in a tough three-set match.
No Ukrainians left in the tournament
Kalinina’s withdrawal marked the end of Ukrainian representation in Linz. Earlier, Dayana Yastremska exited the tournament after losing to Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse in her second-round match.
The tournament in Austria, with a prize pool of over $1.2 million, will continue until April 12, but now without the participation of domestic tennis players.
Earlier, we reported that Elina Svitolina revealed grand plans for the clay season.
