What conditions did the U.S. president reject?

Cuba is not afraid of U.S. President Donald Trump’s threats regarding a possible “seizure” of the island and is ready to defend itself in the event of military aggression.

This was stated by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Politico.

Cuba’s position on U.S. threats

According to the publication, Miguel Diaz-Canel emphasized in an interview with NBC that the country is ready to fight in the event of an American invasion. He expressed his personal willingness to sacrifice himself to preserve the current regime.

“I am not afraid. I am ready to give my life for the revolution,” the Cuban leader stressed.

According to the president, aggression against Cuba will have no justification and will lead to severe consequences for all parties involved.

He also expressed doubt that American society would support a war against the island.

Cuba’s stance on the blockade and Washington’s conditions

Diaz-Canel described the actions of the Trump administration, particularly the economic blockade, as “unjust and treacherous.”

He rejected U.S. demands for multi-party elections, the release of political prisoners, and the recognition of a free press.

“We have the right to self-determination and independence, and we do not submit to the designs of the United States,” he stated, dismissing the possibility of his resignation.

The Cuban president called on Washington to reconsider its policy, which he considers “cruel and vile” towards the Cuban people.

Escalation around Cuba

Recall that the situation around the island escalated in March 2026.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that the Cuban army began active preparations for possible U.S. military intervention. Havana believes that in light of Washington’s threats, it would be “naive to exclude” the possibility of a direct U.S. offensive.

Additionally, the Cuban Foreign Ministry officially stated that the country does not intend to discuss its internal political system or the issue of power transition with the United States, calling such demands an interference in its sovereignty.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel had previously noted that the country is ready to resist if Donald Trump’s threats are realized, emphasizing that Havana will not succumb to external pressure.
