It has become clear what the U.S. wants to be assured of
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that after hours of negotiations, Iran did not commit to abandoning its nuclear weapons development.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing CNN.

When a reporter asked which conditions Iran rejected, Vance emphasized that Washington needs to see a firm commitment that Tehran will not seek to create nuclear weapons and the means to do so quickly.
“The question is whether we see a fundamental commitment from the Iranians not to develop nuclear weapons not just now, not just in two years, but in the long term? We do not see that yet, but we hope to see it,” Vance added.
The U.S. and Iran did not reach a deal to end the war
Recall that just a few hours ago, J.D. Vance stated that after 21 hours of negotiations, the U.S. and Iran were unable to reach a peace agreement. Therefore, the American delegation is returning to Washington without a final document.
It is worth noting that a day before the negotiations, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open regardless of Iran’s agreement or disagreement to cooperate, and also mentioned that the key topic would be the nuclear issue. Specifically, the deal would be successful if Tehran commits to not having nuclear weapons.
However, a day later, Trump stated that he did not care whether a deal would be made or not. According to him, the U.S. wins in any case.
