The country’s position on territorial defense has not changed, despite Trump’s statements on social media.
Iran denies reports that the country’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, allegedly contacted U.S. President Donald Trump to request a ceasefire.
This was stated by the spokesman for the Iranian president’s administration, Seyed Mehdi Tabatabai, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing his message on X and NBC News.

Tehran’s reaction
According to Tabatabai, the position of the Islamic Republic regarding the defense of territorial integrity against aggression remains unchanged.
He called the reports about a request for a truce “the lies of criminals.”
“The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding national defense of the country’s integrity from the aggression of enemies and the conditions for ending the imposed war has not changed, and it does not pay attention to the nonsense and lies of criminals,” the administration representative emphasized.
He also added that the Iranian people remain “determined, unwavering, and united in defending their homeland,” calling unity the key to Tehran’s victory.
What Trump said
The Iranian statement came after Donald Trump’s post on the social media platform Truth Social. The U.S. president claimed that Iran’s leadership allegedly reached out to Washington.
Trump did not name a specific individual but clarified that the proposal came from “the new president of Iran,” describing him as “much less radicalized and much smarter than his predecessors.”
Masoud Pezeshkian has held the position of president of Iran since 2024.
U.S.-Iran negotiations
Recall that recently Axios reported that U.S. and Iranian officials are discussing the possibility of a ceasefire. However, Washington is only willing to take such a step under certain conditions.
Additionally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the war with Iran is already on the “home stretch.” According to him, hostilities in the Middle East will not end immediately, but the U.S. already sees a path to the end of the conflict.
Furthermore, according to the WSJ, President Donald Trump expressed readiness to end the war against Iran even without the immediate reopening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, postponing this issue to a later date.
