The KCCA explained whether speed limits will change in the capital this summer
In Kyiv’s highways, the maximum allowed speed for vehicles will not be increased to 80 km/h during the spring-summer period.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the press service of the KCCA.

“During the spring-summer period, there will be no seasonal increase in the speed limit to 80 km/h on certain sections of the roads in Kyiv. This decision was made after a comprehensive examination of the city’s street and road network,” the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the KCCA noted.
Specialists assessed the condition of specific sections based on the existing methodology for setting speed limits. The evaluation took into account the presence of public transport lanes, left turns, areas with limited visibility, as well as statistics on road traffic accidents from the previous year.
The Department also noted that the decision was influenced by the consequences of severe weather conditions in winter, which worsened the state of the road surface.
“Currently, municipal services are working on restoring infrastructure and ensuring the stable operation of the capital’s road transport complex. The priority remains the safety of road users, so the city is taking measures to reduce speed and minimize accidents,” the KCCA stated.
Thus, from April 1 to November 1, the standard speed limit in Kyiv will be 50 km/h in accordance with the Traffic Rules of Ukraine.
Changes for drivers in 2026
Recall that starting March 6, 37 more cameras for automatic recording of traffic violations began operating on the roads of Ukraine.
This year, Ukraine also plans to implement a points penalty system for drivers. After a certain number of violations, individuals will lose their driving licenses.
It is noted that such a system operates in Germany, France, the USA, and Poland. It has shown certain results and allows for scaring violators and gaining a response from their consciousness so that they drive without violating traffic rules.
