The export of Ukrainian weapons to the Middle East is restricted: what manufacturers are saying

What caused the restriction on the export of Ukrainian weapons?

The export of Ukrainian weapons to Middle Eastern countries is limited for a number of reasons, including national interests and diplomatic consequences.

This is stated in an article by RBC-Ukraine titled “From Drones to Tanks: Who in the World Wants to Buy Ukrainian Weapons and What Hinders Export.”

“Every decision hinges on national interest, the end user, diplomatic consequences, and the question of whether this weakens our own capabilities,” noted Igor Fedirko, executive director of the Ukrainian Arms Manufacturers Council.

According to him, this is why the government is very cautious regarding sensitive markets, particularly in the Middle East.

“In the context of war and active hostilities, we understand the position and prerogative of the state to determine export policy and, for example, to establish partnerships at various levels through signing security agreements with allies,” emphasized Anastasia Mishkina, executive director of the “Technological Forces of Ukraine” association.

At the same time, she stated that it is important to respond promptly and provide the industry with opportunities to quickly enter the markets of allied countries.

Ukrainian Weapons Export

Recall that in early October last year, it became known that Ukraine would soon resume mass weapons exports.

Subsequently, in November, NSDC Secretary Rustem Umerov announced the date when the first real contracts for weapons export from Ukraine would be signed.

By February 2026, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the first German-Ukrainian enterprise for drone production in Munich. He showcased the first jointly manufactured strike drone.
