In Hungary, new secret schemes are being discussed
The Hungarian tax authority has added new “fuel” to the case of the detained cash transporters of “Oschadbank.” This time, Budapest published a video allegedly from a gas station restroom.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, the publication of the tax authority’s materials was announced by the spokesperson of the Hungarian government, Zoltan Kovacs, in X.

What the Hungarians called “evidence”
According to NAV (National Tax and Customs Administration of Hungary), the armored vehicles were transporting new euro and dollar banknotes that allegedly had never been in circulation. Investigators claim that these funds are linked to several financial institutions:
- Ukrainian “Oschadbank”;
- banks in Poland;
- a financial institution in Gibraltar.

The restroom video – Budapest’s new “trump card”
Among the “evidence,” the Hungarian side presented a video recording that allegedly shows a former major general of Ukrainian intelligence forging documents right in the gas station restroom.
In the same recording, according to NAV, conversations among his companions can be heard discussing “payments related to corruption.”
Notably, this is the same gas station where the Hungarian anti-terrorism center initially detained the cash transporters.
The video, which the Hungarians actively disseminated across all channels immediately after the detention, shows individuals in “Cash Transport Service” uniforms being pressed face down on the ground right after being stopped.
At that time, Budapest boasted photos of money and gold – and suddenly the same material turned into “evidence for a criminal case.”
What was transported and how much
According to NAV, two armored vehicles of “Oschadbank” contained:
- about 40 million dollars;
- 35 million euros;
- 9 kilograms of gold.
The origin and purpose of the cargo, Hungary insists, allegedly “remain unclear.”
Detention of “Oschad” cash transporters in Hungary: what is known
Recall that on March 5, 2026, the Hungarian anti-terrorism center stopped two armored vehicles of “Oschadbank” at a gas station in Budapest.
The vehicles were transporting 40 million dollars, 35 million euros, and 9 kilograms of gold in transit from the Austrian “Raiffeisen Bank” to Ukraine.
Seven Ukrainian cash transporters were detained, and NAV opened a criminal case on suspicion of money laundering.
As RBC-Ukraine reported, on the same day, the Hungarian government released photos and videos of the seized cargo and dubbed the operation “Ukrainian Golden Convoy.”
Kiev called these actions “state banditry” and hostage-taking. On the evening of March 6, all seven Ukrainian citizens managed to cross the border – they were released after pressure from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.
Meanwhile, the Hungarian government adopted a special decree No. 49/2026, allowing NAV to retain the seized assets for at least 60 days.
The vehicles have been agreed to be returned to Ukraine, but the money and gold remain in Hungary for now.
