LNZ and “Shakhtar” part ways with UPL ahead of their direct clash: video of stunning defeats

“Dynamo” and “Polesie” slowed down in the 22nd round of the Premier League

Cherkasy LNZ and Donetsk “Shakhtar” won their matches on Sunday, April 5, as part of the 22nd round of the domestic Premier League. The leaders of the championship pulled away from their pursuers and are preparing for a direct confrontation next week.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing match results.

“A gift” from “Dynamo”

On the eve, Kyiv’s “Dynamo” sensationally lost at home to Lviv’s “Karpaty” in a heated encounter marked by scuffles and a red card for young star Matviy Ponomarenko. The first defeat of Igor Kostiuk’s team in the spring part of the season became a real gift for their competitors.

LNZ crushed “Kryvbas”

The league leaders played in Kryvyi Rih and finished the match with a crushing victory over the local “Kryvbas” – 3:0.

The main hero of the match was Daniil Kravchuk. In the 55th minute, the forward capitalized on a glaring mistake by defender Volodymyr Vilyvalda, converting a one-on-one chance against the goalkeeper, and ten minutes later he completed a brace. Shota Nonikashvili sealed the deal in the match, needing just five minutes after coming on as a substitute to score.

“Shakhtar” left no chances for “Rukh”

Donetsk “Shakhtar,” in a nominally home match at “Arena Lviv,” crushed the local “Rukh,” scoring three unanswered goals.

The scoring in the first half was opened by Eguinaldo, who headed in a precise cross from Artem Bondarenko. After the break, Arda Turan’s team only increased the pressure: first, Eguinaldo completed his brace with a pass from Lassina Traore, and at the end of the match, Luka Meireles made it a rout.

The “miners'” advantage could have been even greater, but in stoppage time, Pedrinho missed the chance to score a fourth goal, failing to convert a penalty.

“Polesie” dropped points against “Veres”

The Zhytomyr team could have significantly increased their lead over “Dynamo” with a victory over Rivne’s “Veres,” but settled for a draw – 1:1.

The “Wolves” opened the scoring in the 34th minute. After a cross from the flank, the ball found its way to Oleksandr Andriyevskyi, who sent it into the net with a precise shot. However, at the end of the first half, the visitors managed to equalize. Vladyslav Sharai, from the edge of the penalty area, executed a spectacular curling shot that left the home goalkeeper Yevhen Volynets with no chance.

In the second half, “Polesie” actively sought a winning goal, while “Veres” responded with dangerous counterattacks. However, the spectators did not see any more goals.

Tournament standings

LNZ and “Shakhtar” both have 50 points and lead the UPL table. The Cherkasy team currently outpaces their competitors on additional indicators, but the “miners” have a game in hand.

The leaders will face each other in the next round – on April 13 in Cherkasy. This match could be decisive in the race for the “gold.”

Leaders’ standings after the 22nd round matches:

  1. LNZ – 50 points (22 matches)
  2. “Shakhtar” – 50 (21)
  3. “Polesie” – 43 (22)
  4. “Dynamo” – 41 (22)
