In the EU, they assert that Ukraine’s accession is impossible without peace and reforms

“Everyone in this room knows that it is impossible for Ukraine to become an EU member on January 1, 2027,” she emphasized.
According to Várhelyi, to obtain membership, Ukraine must meet two key conditions – achieve peace and carry out necessary reforms.
“First, peace is needed – that is important – then reforms must be carried out… investors will come to Ukraine, as you know, only when they can make money and when their investments are secure,” the commissioner added.
At the same time, she emphasized that Ukraine is already an important partner of the EU in the areas of innovation, defense, and other strategic directions that can enhance the bloc’s competitiveness.
Recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Kyiv aims to accelerate Euro-integration as much as possible and will do everything possible to prepare for EU accession by 2027. He also stressed the need to establish a clear membership date.
At the same time, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen noted that it is currently impossible to set specific timelines for Ukraine’s accession. However, she emphasized that Ukraine is on a “good path” to membership.
