Poltava’s “Vorskla” did not show up for the game against “Metalist 1925”: the star team is on the brink of survival
A real scandal has erupted in the women’s championship of Ukraine in football. The central match of the round between the main contenders for the “gold” – Kharkiv’s “Metalist 1925” and Poltava’s “Vorskla” – did not take place for a shocking reason.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the Telegram channel of Kharkiv player Anna Petryk.

Unable to move
Information about the cancellation of the match, which was supposed to take place today, March 24, came as a shock to the football community. According to Anna Petryk, the Poltava team simply could not leave due to a financial collapse.
“Today was supposed to be game day… but the management of Poltava’s ‘Vorskla’ has hit rock bottom. The team did not travel for the game because they cannot refuel the bus. I can’t imagine what the players who came for the away game are feeling when they are given such ‘wonderful’ news. Strength and patience to you, girls. A team that six months ago played in the Champions League and the European Cup is now in such conditions. It’s awful,” the player emotionally wrote.
From the Champions League to the abyss
The situation looks particularly critical given “Vorskla’s” status. The Poltava club is the reigning champion of Ukraine, which represented the country on the European stage last autumn. The team currently occupies the second spot in the table, trailing “Metalist 1925” by 5 points.
Financial difficulties at the club did not start today; however, the inability to pay for fuel for a crucial game of the season indicates a critical phase.
What’s next
According to UPL regulations, failure to appear for a match without valid reasons could result in a technical defeat (0:3) for the team. This effectively deprives “Vorskla” of any chance to defend their title, as the gap with the Kharkiv team would increase to 8 points.
It is worth noting that the previous meeting between these teams in February ended in a crushing victory for “Metalist 1925” with a score of 9:0, which already hinted at serious internal problems for the Poltava team.
