Trump’s Words About the Pope Were a Joke?
In the U.S., attempts have been made to justify Donald Trump for his controversial message about the Vatican. In particular, Vice President JD Vance referred to it as a joke.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, Vance made this statement during the Special Report program on Fox News.

“Unfiltered” Communication as a Style
Vance defended the way the Trump administration communicates with the public. According to him, the president’s posts on social media are an “unfiltered” way to convey a message directly to the people, without intermediaries.
Vance characterized Trump’s message about Pope Leo XIV as a joke and saw nothing offensive in it.
Immigration: No Concessions Will Be Made
Regarding the criticism from the pontiff, Vance gave a clear response: the U.S. will not change its immigration policy under external pressure.
He stated that the administration makes decisions based on the interests of American citizens, rather than taking into account remarks from foreign leaders, including the head of the Catholic Church.
What Preceded This
Recall that the scandal erupted on April 12, when U.S. President Donald Trump posted a sharp message directed at Pope Leo XIV on his social media platform Truth Social.
He called the pontiff “weak on crime” and “terrible on foreign policy,” and stated that he “doesn’t like a pope who is willing to give Iran nuclear weapons.”
Meanwhile, Pope Leo XIV himself reacted with restraint. As RBC-Ukraine reported, the pontiff stated that he is not afraid of pressure from the White House and will continue to speak out against war.
On the other hand, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni publicly condemned the words of the American president.
She called Trump’s remarks about the Holy Father “unacceptable” and emphasized that the Pope has every right to call for peace and condemn any war.
