The leader of the “Tisa” party promised a new referendum on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union
The leader of the “Tisa” party and winner of the parliamentary elections in Hungary, Peter Madjar, believes that Ukraine cannot be accepted into the EU through an expedited procedure.
As reported by RBK-Ukraine, Madjar made this statement at a press conference.

“From the very beginning, we said that we do not support the expedited accession of Ukraine to the EU. It would be impossible for the EU to accept a country that is in a state of war,” he said.
According to Madjar, the issue of Ukrainian membership is not currently relevant, as the country must go through all negotiation clusters.
“All candidate countries must go through the same process. They need to discuss all clusters, and if Ukraine does that, a referendum will be held in Hungary regarding whether the EU should accept it, and this will not happen in the near future,” he noted.
The referendum in Hungary on Ukraine
Recall that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who suffered defeat in yesterday’s parliamentary elections, had already held a “referendum” in the country regarding Ukraine’s EU membership.
He claimed that 95% of people who voted in the “referendum” allegedly opposed Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
The “referendum” was accompanied by propaganda statements from members of the Hungarian government about the supposedly “terrible” consequences for Hungary if Ukraine becomes part of the EU.
Using such “results,” Orban’s government blocked the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s EU accession. In fact, they never fully began, even though the leaders of EU member states made the corresponding decision back in 2024.
