Ukraine has lifted its recommendations against traveling to Hungary.

The head of the Foreign Ministry, Andriy Sibiga, made a statement after the elections

After the parliamentary elections in Hungary, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry lifted its recommendations for citizens to refrain from traveling to that country.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement from Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga.

As the minister noted, following the conclusion of the electoral campaign in Hungary yesterday, the Foreign Ministry is canceling its previous recommendations for citizens to avoid traveling to Hungary.

“This electoral campaign, which unfortunately was filled with manipulations regarding Ukraine, is now behind us. This means that the heightened risks of provocations, which led to these restrictions, have lost their urgency,” Sibiga stated.

According to him, Kyiv hopes that the election results will contribute to the normalization of relations between the countries.

The minister emphasized that Ukraine is ready to work towards achieving this goal.

“The choice of the Hungarian people demonstrated our neighbors’ desire to live in peace, security, and prosperity – to live in a truly independent Hungary that is part of a united and free Europe, rather than a zone of Moscow’s influence, a space of lawlessness and intimidation,” the Foreign Minister declared.

Sibiga also stressed that the choice of Hungarians marked a defeat for the politics of blackmail and anti-Ukrainian propaganda.

“This is symptomatic. The Hungarians clearly said: enough. This will have consequences for other parties and movements in Europe that promote such rhetoric,” he added.

At the same time, he called for realistic expectations regarding future relations.

“Ahead lies meticulous, pragmatic, and calm work to find points of contact, restore mutual respect, and embody shared pragmatic interests. Our peoples deserve that we take this path, and we will work towards restoring good neighborliness in the interests of our two countries and Europe as a whole,” Sibiga summarized.

What preceded this

Recall that on March 6 in Budapest, Hungarian authorities took seven Ukrainian citizens – employees of Oschadbank – hostage and seized the money they were transporting.

The seven Oschadbank employees were traveling in two bank vehicles in transit between Austria and Ukraine, carrying cash as part of regular servicing between state banks.

After this incident, Ukrainians were urged to avoid traveling to Hungary due to the “danger of arbitrary actions by the authorities” in the country.
