“Ukraine is ready for cooperation”: Zelensky congratulated Madyar on his victory

The end of the era of conflicts? Zelensky congratulated Madyar and spoke of “new opportunities”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated the leader of the opposition party “Tisa,” Peter Madyar, on his convincing victory in the parliamentary elections in Hungary.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Volodymyr Zelensky’s Telegram channel.

Congratulations and a signal for cooperation

Zelensky noted that the victory of “Tisa” is an important signal – “when a constructive approach wins.” He expressed Ukraine’s readiness to develop good-neighborly relations with Hungary.

“We are ready for meetings and joint constructive work for the benefit of both nations, as well as for peace, security, and stability in Europe,” the president emphasized.

According to him, Ukraine has always sought good-neighborly relations with everyone in Europe, and the current results of the Hungarian elections open up new opportunities for cooperation.

Recall that the parliamentary elections in Hungary took place on April 12, 2026. Voter turnout was historic – as of 6:30 PM, 77.80% of Hungarians (almost 6 million people) had voted.

The defeat of the “Fidesz” party in these elections was the result of record turnout (almost 78%). Orban’s campaign was built on anti-Ukrainian rhetoric. In the streets of Budapest, there were more portraits of Volodymyr Zelensky than images of Orban himself.

Feeling the risk of defeat, the Kremlin intensified its attempts to intervene in support of its ally. Journalists discovered that a team from Moscow, specializing in election hacking, was operating in Budapest.

Orban’s defeat also has a broader European context. According to media reports, it will force his main ally, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, to reconsider his pro-Russian and anti-European rhetoric, likely softening his position on Ukraine and the EU.
