Has the nuclear issue overshadowed everything?
US President Donald Trump stated that negotiations with Iran in Pakistan went well. According to him, many agreements were reached, but the issue of nuclear weapons remains unresolved.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing his post on the social network Truth Social.

“So, the meeting went well, most issues were agreed upon, but the only truly important point, the nuclear one, remains unresolved,” Trump wrote.
He then published another post. In it, the president again touched on the topic of negotiations and expressed his position on Iran’s nuclear weapons.
According to Trump, yesterday’s meeting with Iran began early in the morning and lasted all night. In total, it took about 20 hours.
The US leader writes that he could provide detailed information about the results achieved, but the most important thing, according to him, is that Iran does not wish to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
“In many ways, the agreements reached are better than continuing our military operations to the end, but all these points are meaningless compared to allowing nuclear energy to fall into the hands of such unstable, complex, and unpredictable people,” the publication states.
Trump added that during the negotiations, three of his representatives (referring to Vice President JD Vance and special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner) “grew very close and came to respect” the Iranian representatives. But regarding the refusal to abandon nuclear weapons – this does not matter.
“It doesn’t matter because they were very unyielding on the most important issue, and as I have always said from the very beginning and many years ago, Iran will never have nuclear weapons!” – the US president concluded.
US-Iran negotiations have failed
Recall that yesterday, April 11, the American delegation led by US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Pakistan for negotiations with Iran. The media reported various information, both positive and negative.
However, by the morning of April 12, Vance addressed journalists, stating that as a result of the negotiations, the US and Iran had not reached an agreement to end the war. As a result, he said, the delegation is returning to Washington empty-handed. Vance also suggested at that time that the key point of failure was Iran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
It is worth noting that according to the NYT, the negotiations between the countries also reached an impasse due to the issue of control over the Strait of Hormuz. In particular, Iran wanted to maintain its control and opposed the idea of joint patrols.
