Not the “51st state” anymore? Trump assured that he will not invade Canada.

The American leader believes he won’t manage to “annex” Canada in 3 years

U.S. President Donald Trump seems to have abandoned the idea of turning Canada into the 51st state of the United States. He does not plan to invade the country.

As reported by RBC-Ukraine, the statement from the American leader is cited by The Telegraph.

Trump gave an interview to Robert Hardman, the royal biographer, for his new book about Elizabeth II. Hardman urged the American leader to “leave Canada alone,” noting that encroachments on the country would “upset King Charles III,” who will visit the U.S. at the end of April.

“I think Canadians have 200 years of history and all this ‘O, Canada’ (the title of Canada’s national anthem – ed.). You can’t sort that out in three and a half years. I don’t think it will happen! (referring to the annexation of Canada to the U.S. – ed.)” Trump said.

The American leader also questioned whether Canadians still recognize the king as the head of their state.

“They have terrible politicians. They smile at me to my face, and then say bad things behind my back,” Trump said.

Trump’s encroachments on Canada

Recall that last year, Donald Trump, even before his inauguration, stated that he wanted to make Canada the 51st state of the U.S. In his opinion, the border between the countries is “artificial.”

He repeatedly referred to then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the “governor of the Great State of Canada.”

Also, in February of last year, the American leader stated at an elite dinner of the Alfalfa Club in Washington that Canada “will become the 51st state, Greenland the 52nd, and Venezuela the 53rd.”
