Fico made an absurd call to the EU regarding oil from Russia.

According to the Prime Minister, the current course of the EU and the European Commission resembles a “suicide ship”

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has urged the EU to lift sanctions on oil and gas from Russia and take steps to resume supplies through the Druzhba pipeline.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the official’s post on Facebook.

Fico’s statement came after his phone conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

In his social media post, the Slovak Prime Minister stated that the EU should resume dialogue with Russia and create conditions under which member states can obtain the missing energy resource supplies.

“The EU and, in particular, the European Commission must immediately resume dialogue with Russia and create such political and legal conditions that individual member states and the EU as a whole can replenish the missing stocks of gas and oil and ensure supplies of this strategic raw material from all possible sources and directions, including Russia,” the post reads.

Fico also claims that in matters of energy security, the EU and the EC are starting to resemble a “suicide ship.”

Russia profits from the war in Iran

It is worth noting that by the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026, oil prices had dropped significantly. However, the US and Israel’s operation against Iran, launched in late February, radically changed the situation, as Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of global oil supplies pass. This led to a shortage and a sharp rise in prices.

In this context, the US began taking measures to stabilize oil prices. One of the solutions was the partial lifting of sanctions on Russia, which resulted in an increase in Russia’s revenues.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly told the US that Russia is passing intelligence to Iran. He also noted that it is beneficial for Russia to prolong the war in Iran, as it will allow them to earn more money, which will then be used for the war against Ukraine.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Russia is close to completing the phased supply of drones, medications, and food to Iran.
