“The EU needs security guarantees from Ukraine”: a loud statement about NATO was made in Estonia

Tsahkna acknowledged: the Ukrainian army is the largest and strongest in the region

The head of the Estonian Foreign Ministry, Margus Tsahkna, stated that Europe needs security guarantees from Ukraine and that now is a “historic moment” to integrate it into the EU and NATO.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Tsahkna’s message on X.

According to him, integrating Ukraine into the EU and NATO will guarantee security for both Ukraine and all of Europe.

“NATO speaks not only of the need to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, but also that our region needs security guarantees from Ukraine, as Ukraine is now the largest, most effective, and experienced military force in our region,” the Estonian minister stated.

Tsahkna noted that the decision to leave Ukraine in a “gray zone” would allow Russia to continue its aggression on the European continent.

“Therefore, we must consider this comprehensively, as these ‘gray zones,’ neutral countries, or buffer zones, however we call them, are merely a green light for Putin (Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, – ed.) to continue aggression against Europe. So we should realize that this is also our opportunity,” he added.

The Estonian minister emphasized that Ukraine is currently fighting not only for itself and its freedom but is also giving Europe time to establish its security structure.

Date of Ukraine’s accession to the EU

Recall that earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Ukrainian authorities would do everything possible for the country to be ready to join the European Union by 2027.

At the same time, Kyiv urged Brussels to set January 1, 2027, as the date for Ukraine’s accession to the EU.

However, last week, EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi, said that Ukraine’s accession to the EU on January 1, 2027, is impossible. According to her, the membership process depends on two specific things – achieving peace and implementing reforms.
