Diplomatic deadlock

At the beginning of the conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump suggested that the operation would last four to six weeks. According to Rubio, the situation is critically complicated by the lack of direct communication with Iranian leadership.

Currently, dialogue is only being conducted through intermediaries, as officials in Tehran have effectively “gone underground.”

The Secretary of State explained that Iranian officials are avoiding phones, fearing they will be tracked and eliminated. Besides communication issues, Washington still does not understand who in Iran has the authority to make final decisions.

Amid this uncertainty, thousands more American troops are arriving in the region. The U.S. administration is already considering options that involve deploying ground units to achieve the operation’s objectives.

“Weeks, not months”

The United States currently does not see the possibility for an immediate ceasefire, although they assert their determination to conclude the campaign.

“We are firmly committed to achieving all our goals in this war,” Rubio emphasized during closed negotiations with allies.

Later, during an official communication with the press following the G7 meeting, the Secretary of State also confirmed that the resolution will not come as quickly as expected.

He noted that the U.S. expects “this conflict to end in a few weeks.

What is known about Trump’s peace plan

Recall that U.S. President Donald Trump previously stated that he seeks to avoid a protracted war and hopes to end the conflict in the coming weeks. According to media reports, he insists on strict adherence to the previously announced timelines.

As part of the preparation for dialogue, Trump suspended strikes on Iran’s energy facilities for 10 days. According to the American leader, this step was taken at Tehran’s request, and the negotiations “are going very well.”

Also today, March 27, it is expected that Iran will present the U.S. with a counterproposal for a peaceful settlement. The White House is currently awaiting an official signal from the Iranian side.
