A step towards resignation or prison? The Slovak police have opened a case against Fico for treason.

Opposition Achieves Official Investigation into Prime Minister’s Actions

In Slovakia, law enforcement has opened a criminal case against Prime Minister Robert Fico on suspicion of treason and a number of other crimes.

This was announced by the leader of the opposition party SaS, Branislav Gröhling, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Aktuality.

Details of the Investigation and Charges

According to the politician, the basis for the law enforcement actions was a statement from the SaS party, which was supported by thousands of citizens.

The case has already been transferred from the General Prosecutor’s Office to the police for investigation.

The opposition accuses the head of government not only of treason but also of abuse of power, crimes against humanity, and even involvement in terrorism.

Branislav Gröhling positively assessed the initiation of the process.

“I am convinced that Fico is suspected of committing serious crimes, which is why I appreciate that both the prosecutor’s office and the police are acting on this matter and not covering it up,” emphasized the SaS leader.

Reasons for Filing the Complaint

The criminal complaint is based on Fico’s actions regarding energy security. In particular, it concerns his initiatives to halt emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine.

Gröhling noted that this case has gained significant attention due to unprecedented public support.

“In addition to my colleagues from SaS, more than 13,000 people have joined this criminal complaint, making it the largest criminal complaint in history,” he stated.

Fico Complained About Zelensky

It is worth noting that recently, relations between Bratislava and Kyiv have soured over energy and financial issues.

In particular, on March 19, the Prime Minister of Slovakia complained that during the European Council summit, they “talked about Ukraine” all day, yet no progress was made on the issue of resuming Russian oil supplies through Ukrainian territory.

Subsequently, on March 21, Robert Fico resorted to harsh rhetoric against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and EU leadership. He stated that he “will not allow himself to be led around” and threatened that Slovakia could block further loans for Ukraine if the issue of oil transit is not resolved in favor of Bratislava.
