In March, the cost of bedding in trains increased
In Ukraine, starting from March 2026, the cost of using bedding in trains has changed. At the same time, “Ukrzaliznytsia” reminds that this service has clear rules for both passengers and conductors.

- From March 1, 2026, the cost of using bedding in trains has increased: 95 hryvnias in compartments and open-plan carriages and 180 hryvnias in SV cars.
- The set includes a mattress, pillow, blanket, pillowcase, two sheets, a towel, and protective covers.
- According to hygiene rules, it is strictly forbidden to use a mattress or pillow without bedding.
- The conductor must organize the collection of bedding 30 minutes before arrival, and passengers must fold the used items.
- Conductors must assist with bedding for people with disabilities, the sick, the elderly, and passengers with small children.
- Payment for bedding is separate from the ticket and includes the use of the full sleeping inventory during the trip.
This concerns not only comfort during the journey but also a regulated service that includes a specific set of items and mandatory actions before arrival.
How much does bedding cost now
In “Ukrzaliznytsia,” a representative commented to RBC-Ukraine that starting from March 1, 2026, the cost of bedding has increased.
Now, the cost for a set is:
- 95 hryvnias – in compartment and open-plan carriages (previously – 80 hryvnias);
- 180 hryvnias – in SV and RIC cars (previously – 120 hryvnias).
The increase amounted to 15 and 60 hryvnias, respectively.
This payment is separate from the ticket price and covers not only the bedding but also the use of the sleeping space as a whole.
What is included in the set
Bedding in the train is not just a sheet or pillowcase. According to the rules, passengers are provided with a complete set:
- a mattress and pillow;
- a blanket (depending on the season);
- a pillowcase, sheet, and towel;
- protective covers.
At the same time, the company emphasizes an important nuance: using a mattress or pillow without bedding is prohibited. This is explained by hygiene requirements.
Why conductors collect bedding in advance
A separate topic that often sparks discussions among passengers is the collection of bedding before the train arrives. “Ukrzaliznytsia” explains that this is not an initiative of the conductors but a mandatory norm.
According to the rules, approximately 30 minutes before the final station, the conductor must organize the collection of bedding. This is necessary to prepare the carriage for the next trip.
Passengers are expected to fold the used bedding.
The conductor also has the right to remind passengers in advance to avoid delays and organizational problems.
What obligations do passengers have
Transportation rules stipulate that passengers must comply with the conductor’s requirements and not hinder their work.
At the same time, there is a reciprocal obligation – the conductor must assist with bedding for those in need. This includes:
- people with disabilities;
- elderly passengers;
- the sick;
- passengers with small children.
What this means in practice
In fact, bedding in the train is not just an additional option but a part of the service that is clearly regulated by rules.
Passengers receive a complete set and comfort, but they must also adhere to the established order – in particular, preparing the bedding for collection before arrival.
In “Ukrzaliznytsia,” it is emphasized that these requirements help ensure quality transportation and quick preparation of carriages for subsequent trips.
