Trump stated that Ukraine and Russia are close to an agreement and identified the main obstacle to peace.

The war in Ukraine has proven to be more complex than the eight conflicts that Trump claims to have already resolved.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine and Russia are close to reaching a peace agreement. However, this is hindered by the mutual hatred between the presidents of the two countries.

As reported by RBC-Ukraine, Trump made this statement during a conversation with journalists.

The U.S. President emphasized that he would like to see the war in Ukraine concluded before the midterm elections.

“Well, we would like to see President Putin (Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, – ed.) and President Zelensky (Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, – ed.) sit down at the negotiating table and reach an agreement. I think they are close to that, but I have been saying this for a long time,” his statement reads.

Trump once again reminded that he has resolved eight wars and added that all of them should have been more complicated than the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

“But these are two people who truly hate each other. You will understand that hatred does not contribute to reaching agreements. These are people who do not like each other very much,” noted the U.S. President.

Peace negotiations in Ukraine

It is worth noting that since the beginning of the year, Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia have held three rounds of peace negotiations. The fourth was expected in early March but was postponed due to the conflict in the Middle East.

Recently, Ukraine and Russia officially confirmed that the negotiations are currently on hold. The parties have not abandoned them, but meetings are being rescheduled at the request of the Americans.

It should be noted that bilateral negotiations between Ukraine and the U.S. took place in Florida over the weekend of March 21 and 22. Their outcome, among other things, includes signals about a possible continuation of exchanges.

Earlier, Zelensky stated that the main goal of the meetings in the U.S. is to understand how ready Russia really is to end the war. According to him, due to the situation in the Middle East, geopolitical problems have only increased.
