Russia has begun blocking Telegram in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

Following the territory of the Russian Federation, Telegram has begun to be blocked in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

In the occupied territories of Ukraine, significant disruptions in the operation of the Telegram messenger have been recorded. Russian authorities have started to artificially slow down the messenger, despite promises not to impose restrictions in frontline areas.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing “Donbass Realities.”

Residents of the occupied areas are complaining about serious interruptions in the messenger’s operation. For instance, according to the publication, in the Schastye district of Luhansk region, even when using a VPN, making a call to the territory controlled by Ukraine is nearly impossible.

Eyewitnesses report that the sound delay during connections reaches 20 seconds, or the connection is completely absent. As for Luhansk itself, calls do not go through at all without bypassing services.

Users are forced to search for VPN services that have not yet been blocked by Roskomnadzor to communicate effectively.

At the same time, problems with Telegram are being widely discussed in local chats of the occupied cities in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Users note that the messenger “constantly lags” and “freezes,” even if text messages still get through.

Some local residents in the chats ironically suggest “collectively writing to Putin,” hoping for the lifting of restrictions. Currently, using a VPN remains the only way to maintain communication, but this method is becoming increasingly ineffective.

It is worth noting that Russia began blocking the Telegram messenger earlier than expected. At the same time, Russian authorities are pushing everyone towards the so-called “national messenger” MAX – yet they themselves are afraid to use it.

Previously, it was reported that the Russian regime had already set a date for the blocking of the Telegram messenger on the territory of the Russian Federation. It was planned that this would happen at the beginning of April this year – starting from April 1, the messenger would not operate in Russia.
