EU’s position on security in the region

During a conversation with journalist Becky Anderson, the EU’s chief diplomat defended Europe’s efforts in ensuring the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

She responded to criticism from the US and Gulf countries regarding the insufficient activity of European countries on this issue.

Kallas emphasized that international cooperation in security must be bilateral. In particular, she pointed out the lack of involvement from Gulf countries in addressing issues caused by Russian aggression.

“We have not seen Gulf countries helping us with Russia; this cannot be a one-way street,” Kallas stated.

Disputes over the Strait of Hormuz

It is worth noting that recently, the issue of security in the Strait of Hormuz has caused tension between the US and Europe. Earlier, media reported that US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to European allies, demanding that they take on the main burden of ensuring security in the region.

Later, Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer discussed the technical details of a possible reopening of this strategic strait.

At the same time, the British Prime Minister harshly criticized the political “games” of the leaders of the US and Russia, stating that he was “tired” of their influence on the stability of global energy prices.
