Why was the U.S. Vice President called a hypocrite?
Germany accused U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance of hypocrisy due to his statements about the elections in Hungary. Berlin believes that the American official’s visit to Budapest indicates his own interference in the electoral process.

Berlin’s reaction to Vance’s statements
As noted by the publication, the German government officially rejected J.D. Vance’s accusations made during his visit to Hungary. Deputy Government Spokesperson Sebastian Gille pointed out that the actions of the U.S. Vice President contradict his words.
“Since Vance complains about potential EU interference in the elections, I want to note that the U.S. Vice President was in Hungary just days before the vote. This fact speaks for itself about who is actually interfering,” Gille stated.
He also added that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz “has no preferences” regarding the election results and will accept any choice made by the Hungarian people.
What Vance accused Brussels of
While in Budapest alongside Viktor Orbán, J.D. Vance called the situation surrounding the election campaign in Hungary “one of the worst examples of foreign interference”.
He criticized European officials for attempting to pressure the country.
“Bureaucrats in Brussels have done everything possible to restrain the people of Hungary because they dislike a leader who has actually stood up for his people,” the U.S. Vice President claimed.
Reaction from the Hungarian opposition
Vance’s visit provoked outrage even within Hungary itself. Opposition leader Péter Madjár emphasized the unacceptability of any foreign state’s interference in the country’s internal processes.
“Hungarian history is not written in Washington, Moscow, or Brussels – it is written on the streets and squares of Hungary,” the politician stated.
Vance’s visit and the elections in Hungary
Recall that earlier, during his visit to Budapest, J.D. Vance repeated the main theses of Hungarian propaganda, claiming alleged “interference” by Ukraine in the country’s internal affairs and accusing Brussels of attempts to “destroy” the Hungarian state.
The U.S. Vice President’s trip was made on the orders of President Donald Trump. Analysts noted that the White House is trying to boost the rating of the current Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, ahead of parliamentary elections, as it considers him a key ally in Europe.
At the same time, sociological surveys indicate a decline in support for the current government. The opposition party “Tisa,” led by Péter Madjár, has significantly increased its lead over the ruling coalition, threatening Orbán’s continued tenure as Prime Minister.
