Instead of spring flowers – frost and snowstorms

The spring warmth turned out to be treacherous – true winter has returned to some regions. Snow not only flew by in places but also lingered on surfaces.

Where snow has flown and lingered in Ukraine

A dense layer of snow covered the highlands of the Carpathians. Meanwhile, the air temperature dropped to -7°C.

According to information from mountain rescuers in Prykarpattia, published on Facebook, as of 9:00 AM on Wednesday, April 8, it was cloudy on Mount Pop Ivan.

The wind was observed from the east, at a speed of 7 m/s.

The snow also reached the resort of Bukovel.

There are also reports of a “winter atmosphere” today in Verkhovyna.

Snow in Lviv and Lviv region was reported since last night.

“White flies” were spotted in Radekhiv.

The Telegram channel “Типовий Львів” reported that a real snowstorm also began in Brody.

On the morning of April 8, snow was even noticed in Kyiv.

Snow flew by yesterday and today in other regions of Ukraine (particularly in Transcarpathia, Ternopil, and Khmelnytsky).

Meanwhile, it rained with hail in Kharkiv.

Where the cold snap came from in Ukraine

Forecaster from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Ivan Semilit told RBC-Ukraine in a brief interview earlier that the current cold weather in most regions of the country is due to a northern process in the atmosphere.

This refers to a cyclone from Scandinavia, which is moving eastward.

In its rear part, there is an intrusion of arctic air from northern directions, which is how the cold reaches our territory.

UkrGMC specialists have warned Ukrainians over the past few days that there may be frost on the ground and even in the air at night in many regions.

In some areas, rain has been accompanied by wet snow.

Strong gusts of wind are also possible in places.

Today, April 8, the uncomfortable weather in Ukraine will continue to be influenced by the rear part of the cyclone (while its center is to the east of our territory).

Cold air mass will still be present at heights, which will be supplemented by “new portions of cold from northern directions.”

It is worth noting that Semilit also discussed whether the weather in Ukraine will change before the weekend – whether there could be warming on Easter or after the holiday.

Recall, we previously reported which cities in Ukraine were historically warm in March and when exactly new temperature records were set.

Additionally, we explained when spring officially arrived in Kyiv and how long winter actually lasted in the city.
