Former FBI chief Mueller resigned in 2013 after leading the Bureau for 12 years. However, a few years later, in 2017, Mueller returned to public service at the request of the Department of Justice.
As Special Counsel, Mueller conducted an investigation related to the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections. He gathered substantial evidence of contacts between Russia and the campaign of then-incumbent President Donald Trump, who won the election in 2016.
During the 22-month investigation, Mueller collected evidence that led to charges against 34 individuals, including several of Trump’s associates. Russian spies and three Russian companies were also implicated. Thanks to the “Mueller Report,” Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn, Rick Gates, and several others from Trump’s circle were convicted.
However, in the end, Mueller declined to file criminal charges against Trump himself, effectively saving him. Despite this, the U.S. president wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that he was very pleased about Mueller’s death.
“Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer harm innocent people!” Trump wrote.
