Money for six months longer: Ukraine has expanded the payment conditions for internally displaced persons.

What needs to be done to avoid losing benefits?

In Ukraine, the conditions for providing housing assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been expanded. In particular, the changes concern children and non-working displaced individuals.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine.

What will change for children

From now on, children-IDPs will receive assistance regardless of the family’s income. Payments will be issued starting February 1, 2026, provided that the application is submitted by May 1, 2026.

The Ministry of Social Policy notes that these changes are aimed at supporting families with children who have lost everything due to the war and restoring social justice.

New opportunities for non-working individuals

Separate changes concern non-working displaced persons. Due to the increase in the minimum subsistence level, those IDPs who previously had their benefits terminated due to exceeding the income threshold can now submit documents for reconsideration.

If the application is submitted by May 1, 2026, payments will be issued starting January 1, 2026. If the documents are submitted later, assistance will be granted from the month of application.

Assistance will be provided for a longer period

The government has also extended the duration of payments.

The maximum number of six-month assistance periods has been increased from four to five. This means that the most vulnerable categories of displaced persons will be able to receive support for an additional six months.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported on plans to provide housing for displaced persons. The state intends to convert vacant dormitories, administrative buildings, and other abandoned properties into apartments for IDPs. A pilot project will start in three regions, where the most suitable buildings for habitation will be selected and renovated.

We also reported that after evacuation, elderly individuals and persons with disabilities can receive free medical and social care in specialized institutions. From now on, the duration of such stays for medical reasons has been extended from 30 to 60 days.
