What every Ukrainian should know?

In Ukraine, there has been a sharp increase in the activity of fraudsters amid news in the media about possible exchanges. Criminals are calling the relatives of prisoners or those missing in action.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement from the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

“They pose as officials or even employees of institutions in Russia or in occupied territories. Their goal is simple – for money, they promise to facilitate the inclusion of a loved one in the exchange lists,” the Coordination Headquarters warned about the fraudsters’ scheme.

It is noted that the criminals may know the names and addresses of the individuals they are calling. Such calls are made even to those whose relatives have already returned home.

The Coordination Headquarters emphasized:

  • only authorized state bodies deal with issues of search and release;
  • no “intermediaries” have or can have any influence on negotiations;
  • any offers of “help for money” are 100% fraud.

Ukrainians are urged not to trust unknown individuals, regardless of what they promise. Furthermore, under no circumstances should money be transferred or personal data be shared with strangers.

Recall that Ukrainians have been warned about a new wave of phishing attacks disguised as messages from Telegram. Users receive messages about alleged violations of their accounts with a demand to urgently follow a link.

Additionally, a fraudulent scheme was uncovered in Ukraine, where criminals attempted to steal bank card data through fake messages about “financial assistance” from international organizations and energy companies.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported on a fraudulent scheme in Telegram, where a fake channel posing as “energy assistance” from the EU collected personal data from Ukrainians.
