Unexpected Ally: One African Country is Eager to Join the Fight Against Iran

Israel has gained a very unexpected ally from Africa, promising to capture Tehran with a brigade.

Uganda has unexpectedly expressed its desire to join the war against Iran on Israel’s side. The country stated that it would take “one brigade” of the Ugandan army to capture Tehran.

According to RBC-Ukraine, this was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ugandan Armed Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of the current president of the country.

“I heard that our friends in Israel are looking for a division to capture Tehran. Personally, I believe a division is too much. A brigade of the UPDF (Uganda People’s Defense Force) will handle this task quickly,” he wrote.

Kainerugaba explained that Israel supported Uganda in the 1980s and 1990s. Therefore, Uganda should come to its defense.

“Israel was with us when we were nobody in the 1980s and 1990s. Why shouldn’t we protect it now when our GDP is $100 billion? One of the largest in Africa,” he added.

The commander of the Ugandan army also noted that the country supports the principle that the war in the Middle East should come to an end. But not with Iran’s victory.

“We want the war in the Middle East to end now. The world is tired of it. But any talk of destroying or defeating Israel will draw us into the war. On Israel’s side!” he concluded.

Who is Kainerugaba?

Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the Commander of the Uganda People’s Defense Force and the eldest son of the current president, Yoweri Museveni. Since 1999, he has served in various positions in the Ugandan armed forces and fought in South Sudan.

Kainerugaba is known for his controversial social media posts. One incident nearly cost him his career: in 2022, Kainerugaba publicly threatened to invade Kenya, which led to his removal from the position of infantry commander.

However, despite all the scandals, in 2024, Muhoozi Kainerugaba was appointed Commander of the Special Forces. In this role, he supported his father’s candidacy for a seventh presidential term. In 2025 and 2026, he made headlines due to open threats against members of the Ugandan opposition opposing Museveni’s rule.

War in Iran: Ground Operation

Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. has decided to shift from bombing Iran to negotiations, as Tehran has started to speak “smart things.”

It is noteworthy that the Americans have presented Iran with a 15-point peace plan to cease hostilities in the Middle East. However, Tehran criticized it and called it “excessive,” putting forward its own conditions for ending the war.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Senate claims that an American ground operation in Iran is being planned and could potentially begin soon. Additionally, according to media reports, the U.S. may launch a large-scale strike against Iran—using ground troops and airstrikes. A decision has not yet been made, but preparations are already underway.
