What Fedorov Agreed with Pistorius Before “Ramstein”?

The next meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine’s defense issues in the “Ramstein” format is scheduled for April 15. The main topics of the meeting will be the strengthening of air defense and the development of unmanned systems.

Preparation for “Ramstein”

During a working call, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov and his German counterpart Boris Pistorius discussed the details of the upcoming meeting. Ukraine is preparing an update on the implementation of the “War Plan” to compel Russia to peace.

The priority areas for cooperation will be the strengthening of air defense, the development of unmanned systems, and the exchange of combat data and technologies.

Ukraine is offering its allies a model of cooperation where partners gain access to unique combat experience and systems of Ukrainian production, particularly methods for countering “Shahed” type drones.

Joint Projects with Germany

The parties are preparing a number of technological projects, including additional funding for long-range and medium-range drones (deep-strike and middle-strike).

They also discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of innovative laser weapons.

Mikhail Fedorov emphasized Germany’s critical role in protecting Ukrainian infrastructure, particularly due to the supply of PAC-3 missiles.

“Contributions from Germany have been critical in repelling Russian attacks,” the Defense Minister stressed.

The ministers paid special attention to the exchange of large volumes of combat data. In the near future, an increase in cooperation in this area is planned, which will open new opportunities for the development of defense capabilities for both countries.

Allied Assistance and “Ramstein” Reform

Recall that earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the missiles promised by partners during previous meetings for the Patriot air defense systems had already arrived in Ukraine. This concerns a batch of PAC-3 missiles, which are critical for protecting the sky from ballistic threats.

Also, following the meeting of the Contact Group held on February 12, Ukraine received one of the largest support packages. At that time, allies confirmed the allocation of $38 billion, which was directed towards the purchase of drones, air defense systems, and ammunition.

In addition to receiving weapons, Kyiv is currently working on changing the logic of the “Ramstein” format itself. The reform of the format is necessary so that each participating country has a clear understanding of its specific contributions to Ukraine’s long-term defense capability.
