Accusations Against Ukraine
According to Vance, the Ukrainian intelligence allegedly has forces that “are trying to influence the outcome of elections in the US and Hungary.”
“This is their usual practice. It’s part of the price you have to pay for working with some elements of their system,” the vice president claims, effectively repeating Hungarian propaganda.
He also added that there were supposedly people in the Ukrainian system who, just weeks before the US presidential elections in 2024, “were campaigning in support of the Democrats.”
Brussels as the “Enemy”
Separately, Vance criticized the European Union while defending Orban’s policies. He stated that “bureaucrats in Brussels” are trying to undermine Hungary simply out of personal hatred for its leader.
“Bureaucrats in Brussels have tried to destroy Hungary’s economy, they have tried to make Hungary less energy independent, they have tried to increase costs for Hungarian consumers,” he said.
The vice president also accused the European Union of interfering in Hungary’s internal politics.
The Duo of “Peacemakers”
Vance equated Orban with US President Donald Trump, stating that the two leaders “have done the most to end the war in Ukraine.”
According to the vice president, he believes Orban will win the upcoming elections.
He also suggested that those who accuse Orban of pro-Russian positions are the ones who initially created an energy-weak economy in Europe. This led to “Ukraine becoming weak and Russia becoming strong.”
Vance’s Visit
It is worth noting that Vance arrived in Hungary just days before the parliamentary elections.
Currently, Viktor Orban is not faring well. According to polls, he is being outpaced by Peter Madjar, an opposition figure and the main competitor of the pro-Russian prime minister.
