The last time such a situation occurred was in early spring 1891
March 2026 in Kyiv surprised specialists not only with its abnormal warmth. Observation data indicate a unique situation that was last recorded in the previous century.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing a publication from the press service of the Central Geophysical Observatory (CGO) named after Boris Sreznevsky on Facebook.

What record did March set in Kyiv
The CGO named after Boris Sreznevsky reported that according to data from the combined hydrometeorological station “Kyiv”, this March has become the driest in the capital in the last 135 years.
It is specified that only 1 mm of precipitation fell on Prospect Nauki, which is 3% of the monthly norm.
“Therefore, the first month of the calendar spring turned out to be the driest in Kyiv since 1891“, – specialists reported.
What was the air temperature in the capital
Ukrainians were informed that the average monthly air temperature in Kyiv in March was 6.7°C.
“This is 4.2°C above the climatic norm“, – emphasized the CGO.
It is also noted that this March in the capital became the fourth warmest since observations began.
On which day of March was it the coldest and vice versa
According to CGO data, the coldest day in Kyiv during the first month of spring was March 1.
At that time, the minimum temperature dropped to -1.6°C by morning.
Meanwhile, the warmest day in March in the capital turned out to be the 27th.
On that day, the maximum temperature rose to +17.8°C.

It is worth noting that earlier, the head of the Cherkasy Hydrometeorological Center, Vitaliy Postryhan, told RBK-Ukraine what the weather might be like after a warm March.
He also confirmed that March 2026 turned out to be unique.
