An aggressive attack on the Madrid team’s bus did not prevent the ” mattress makers” from achieving a sensational victory in Catalonia
On the eve of the first quarter-final of the Champions League in Barcelona, a loud scandal erupted. A crowd of furious home fans attacked the bus carrying the players of Madrid’s “Atletico,” pelting it with stones.

Attack on the approach to the stadium
The incident occurred when the transport carrying the “Atletico” players was trying to pass through a dense crowd of “blue-granate” supporters. A hail of hard objects was thrown towards the bus. As a result of the stone hits, at least two side windows were shattered inside the vehicle.
Witnesses captured footage of the incident: the video shows fans deliberately aiming at the vehicle, trying to intimidate the opponent before the game.

Triumph amid scandal
Despite the shocking reception at the stadium, the “Atletico” players demonstrated iron resilience. The Madrid team not only withstood the pressure from the stands but also achieved a clean victory with a score of 2:0. Goals against “Barcelona” were scored by Julian Alvarez and Alexander Isak.
This result makes the Madrid club the favorite to advance to the semi-finals. The return match is scheduled for April 14 at 22:00 Kyiv time. It will take place in Madrid, where the Catalans will have to feel the atmosphere of an away stadium.

Reaction from Simeone and what UEFA will say
The head coach of the Madrid team, Diego Simeone, stated after the match that such incidents in Barcelona have become systemic. According to the coach, society does not change, and such treatment is commonplace for his team during visits to Catalonia.
It is worth noting that this is not the first case of aggressive behavior from Catalan fans before Champions League matches. UEFA has previously fined “Barcelona” for inadequate security organization near the stadium, but the incident involving the damaged bus could lead to harsher sanctions against the Catalan club.
