What has the government already done to protect critical facilities?

In Ukraine, active preparations for the upcoming heating season have begun, focusing on the protection of critical infrastructure and stable water supply. The government has already allocated over 22 billion hryvnias for the protection of the most priority facilities.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, as reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing her Telegram channel.

Winter Preparation Priorities

During the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Uzhhorod, the implementation of the Regional Resilience Plans was discussed.

According to Svyrydenko, due to constant attacks from the Russian Federation, all regions are at risk, so the pace of preparations must be as high as possible across the country.

The main areas of work have been identified as the protection of critical infrastructure, the development of distributed generation, and ensuring backup heat and water supply.

Modernization of Water Supply Systems

Special attention was given to water utilities, which are also targets of enemy strikes.

The resilience plans include the implementation of 26 projects in 10 communities, including network ring-fencing and the installation of backup equipment. The total cost of these activities is estimated at 12.7 billion hryvnias.

“Next winter, people must have light, heat, and water even in the most difficult conditions,” emphasized the head of government.

Funding and Responsibility of Communities

Currently, the Cabinet of Ministers has provided funding for the initial works amounting to 22.1 billion hryvnias. These funds are directed towards the protection of 576 key facilities.

The government now expects clear co-financing plans from the regions using local budgets. Communities must determine the resources they are ready to provide for the swift conclusion of contracts.

“Everything that can be done now – we are doing now,” added Yulia Svyrydenko.

Preparation for Winter

Let us remind you that the Ukrainian government has already begun large-scale preparations for the next heating season, with a total cost estimated at 278 billion hryvnias. International partners are planned to be involved in these works.

In particular, according to the baseline scenario, by the onset of cold weather, it is planned to accumulate 14.6 billion cubic meters of gas in underground storage facilities.

In addition to resource accumulation, priority tasks include the restoration of destroyed energy system facilities, the installation of new generation, and the repair of power lines.
