Israel targets leadership, the US focuses on military infrastructure
US National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard stated that Washington and Tel Aviv have different objectives in the war against Iran, indicating a divergence in the allies’ approaches.

“The goals set by the president differ from those defined by the Israeli government,” Gabbard noted during a hearing in the House Intelligence Committee.
According to her, the actions of both sides already demonstrate different approaches to conducting the operation.
“Throughout the operations, it is clear that the Israeli government is focused on neutralizing Iranian leadership. The president stated that his goals involve destroying Iran’s ballistic missile launch capabilities, their ballistic missile production capabilities, and their naval fleet,” she added.
The war in Iran and the divide in the US
Such statements are likely aimed at reducing tensions surrounding the war in Iran, which some American officials consider unwise.
Amid the fighting, internal contradictions in the US have intensified. In particular, the head of the Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent, resigned, accusing the Donald Trump administration of unleashing the war, while senators are preparing to publicly question intelligence leaders about the reasons for the conflict and threat assessments.
At the same time, according to The Wall Street Journal, some of Trump’s advisors are calling for an end to the war amid rising oil prices and the risks of prolonged conflict.
Furthermore, doubts have begun to emerge in the US regarding the actual level of threat from Iran: Tulsi Gabbard did not mention part of her speech that stated that after the strikes in 2025, Tehran did not attempt to restore its nuclear program, the destruction of which Trump cites as the main goal of the war.
