The statistics for “Liverpool” in this match are shocking: no one expected such impotence from the English side.
The first round of the quarter-finals in the main European tournament has concluded. French PSG confidently defeated “Liverpool,” while Madrid’s “Atletico” proved stronger than “Barcelona” in the Spanish knockout clash.

PSG’s dominance and another absence of Zabarni
The current trophy holder, Paris PSG, left no chances for “Liverpool” in the home match.
The scoring was opened as early as the 11th minute: Désiré Doué spectacularly outplayed the Merseysiders’ defense and lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
In the second half, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled the advantage, converting a solo run into the penalty area – 2:0.
The statistical advantage for the hosts was overwhelming: 18 shots compared to just 3 for the English team. Moreover, “Liverpool” did not hit the target once, controlling the ball for less than 30% of the time.
Ukrainian defender of PSG Ilya Zabarni again did not appear on the field.
For the Ukrainian national team player, this marks his sixth consecutive match in the Champions League that he has spent on the bench.
The last time the Ukrainian participated in a European cup match was back in January.
The drama of “Barcelona”: red card and defeat by “Atletico”
In the Spanish derby, the key moment came at the end of the first half. “Blaugrana” defender Pau Cubarsi received a straight red card for a last-man foul.
“Atletico” immediately capitalized on their numerical advantage: Julián Álvarez converted a free kick awarded for this foul.
Despite “Barcelona” attacking more frequently (18 shots compared to 5 from their opponent), the Catalans failed to convert their chances.
However, in the 70th minute, Alexander Sørloth finished off a low cross, setting the final score at 2:0 in favor of the Madrid team.
This is the first defeat for “Barcelona” against “Atletico” this season after three previous victories.
The return matches in these pairs are scheduled for Tuesday, April 14. The matches will take place in Liverpool and Madrid, respectively. The starting whistle will sound at 22:00 Kyiv time.
