Russian troops are suffering significant losses while advancing in the Donetsk region
Russian forces are attempting to capture the Donetsk region, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are thwarting the enemy’s plans and conducting successful counterattacks.
This was stated by the Deputy Head of the President’s Office, Brigadier General Pavel Palisa, in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

“The Russians have repeatedly made public demands on Ukraine regarding various concessions, while simultaneously combining these demands with threats, deadlines, etc.,” Palisa said.
According to him, historically, the Russians always resort to such negotiation tactics when they themselves feel that things are not going well.
“If we take the purely military component, in the near future they will not be able to reach the administrative borders of the Donetsk region. For example, if we look at the statistics along the front line for last year, it averages about 120 killed and wounded enemies per occupied square kilometer of our territory,” the Deputy Head of the President’s Office added.
He emphasized that in the direction of the main strike – last year it was the Pokrovsk direction – they had about 160 killed and wounded per square kilometer of captured territory.
It is also worth highlighting the statistics for the first quarter of 2026 strictly within the Donetsk region – starting partially from Lyman and southward – up to the Aleksandrovsk direction.
As of now, for one occupied square kilometer in the Donetsk region, they have 316 killed and wounded. This means that comparing the directions of the main strike from last year and today, there is an almost twofold increase. Their average losses along the contact line in Donbas have increased almost threefold.
“Therefore, you can draw your own conclusions about their successes in the Donetsk direction and with what losses. Their advances are minimal. Tactical successes in several areas are very symbolic. Operationally, there are none overall. So they are actually detached from reality,” Palisa summarized.
At the same time, he noted that, without a doubt, the situation on the front is currently difficult, and all the listed results are primarily the merit of Ukrainian warriors.
The Russian offensive in the Donetsk region
Recall that at the end of March, Russian troops began their spring-summer offensive in the Donetsk region. The main strike was directed at the Lyman direction, which opens the way to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
According to representatives of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during the spring-summer offensive in the Donetsk region, the occupiers will attempt to capture Konstantynivka, Sloviansk, and Kramatorsk.
However, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are successfully repelling enemy attacks. In particular, the marines of the 37th Separate Marine Brigade destroyed the largest assault since the beginning of the year in the area of Aleksandrivka.
