According to the publication, Zelensky arrived in the region seeking to offer Ukraine’s experience in drone combat in exchange for support in defense matters.
Upon his arrival in Saudi Arabia, the Ukrainian leader announced that he plans to hold important meetings.
“We appreciate the support and provide assistance to those who are ready to cooperate with us on security issues,” he said.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Zelensky did not go into detail about the trip, which is expected to include other countries in the region.
However, in a comment to AFP, an unnamed senior official stated that “Ukraine is preparing to sign a security agreement with Saudi Arabia.”
Deals in the Middle East
It is worth noting that a week ago, President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned that Ukraine is in negotiations with Middle Eastern countries regarding defense agreements while simultaneously offering the U.S. a so-called drone deal.
“First of all, we are working with the Middle East, with leaders, at the technical level, with defense ministries. And, in principle, we are preparing serious arrangements, agreements – we will see when they are ready,” Zelensky said.
It is also important to note that a week ago, the BBC reported that Ukrainian interceptor drones had already shot down several Iranian drones in the Persian Gulf.
