“It is clear that the American side’s attention at this time is primarily focused on the situation around Iran and in that region, but this war of Russia against Ukraine must also come to an end,” he noted.
The president emphasized that the aggressor country should not receive any “reward” for this war. Furthermore, Zelensky added that security guarantees for Ukraine and the EU must be sufficient for peace, so that there is no return to war in months or years.
“There are signals that a continuation of exchanges is possible, and that would indeed be very good news and confirmation that diplomacy is working. We hope that this will happen,” he stressed.
Zelensky also stated that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not want to end the war.
Peace negotiations on Ukraine
Let us remind you that since the beginning of the year, Ukraine, the USA, and Russia have held three rounds of peace negotiations. The fourth was expected in early March but was postponed due to the conflict in the Middle East.
Recently, Ukraine and Russia officially confirmed that negotiations are currently suspended. The parties have not abandoned them, but meetings are being postponed at the request of the Americans.
Earlier, Zelensky stated that the main goal of the meetings in the USA is to understand how ready the Russian Federation is to end the war. According to him, after the first round of consultations in Florida, the Ukrainian team will continue negotiations with the American side.
The president of Ukraine also emphasized that the negotiation process in the USA is taking place without the participation of Russian representatives. At this meeting, the Ukrainian delegation planned to raise three key issues aimed at achieving peace.
