Iceland and Poland have confirmed their readiness to join the agreement necessary for the establishment of a Special Tribunal to investigate the crimes of Russian aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha in Kh.<\/p>\n

This marks a turning point: with 17 confirmations, we have officially crossed the legal minimum of member states required to vote on the agreement,” Sybiha wrote.<\/p>\n The minister noted that this concerns an extended partial agreement (EPA) regarding the Steering Committee of the Special Tribunal. He stated that it can now be presented for consideration and adopted during the meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe at the ministerial level in Chi\u0219in\u0103u on May 14-15.<\/p>\n “Less than a year has passed since we gave the green light to the Tribunal on May 9, 2025, when we gathered the foreign ministers of European countries in Lviv. And now we have prepared all the legal steps to start the Tribunal’s work,” the official reported.<\/p>\n According to Sybiha, Ukraine will continue to gather signatures from countries for joining\u2014both within the Council of Europe and outside of it, across all continents and regions.<\/p>\n “We urge all states to join these historic efforts for accountability. The criminals in Moscow must realize that justice is inevitable. From ordinary Russian perpetrators to the highest military and political leadership. Accountability is crucial for lasting peace,” added the Foreign Minister.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Special Tribunal for the Russian Federation<\/p>\n As is known, work continues in Europe on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. In June of last year, Volodymyr Zelensky and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Burset, signed an agreement to create a Special Tribunal to address the crimes of aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n Prior to this, on May 9, 2025, a key international meeting took place in Lviv, where foreign ministers from dozens of European countries, along with representatives of the Council of Europe, gave a political start to the creation of the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression by Russia against Ukraine.<\/p>\n At that time, the parties agreed to move towards the practical launch of a mechanism that should hold the military-political leadership of the Russian Federation accountable for unleashing war.<\/p>\n This decision marked the first official step towards the establishment of a separate international court that will complement the work of other institutions, particularly the International Criminal Court, but will focus specifically on the crime of aggression.<\/p>\n Following this, the process moved into the legal realm: countries began preparing agreements, gathering support, and forming the legal basis for the tribunal, which is planned to be located in The Hague.<\/p>\n As reported, at least 25 states have expressed their readiness to participate in the special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The punishment of the aggressor’s crimes in Ukraine has become more tangible thanks to Poland and Iceland.
