The leader of Hungary’s new ruling party “Tisa” and future Prime Minister Peter Madyar stated that he is ready to sit down for negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing the Hungarian publication Nepszava.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think a resigning prime minister takes himself seriously when he says such things on air. No one wants a pro-Ukrainian government in Hungary. They want a pro-Hungarian one, and we hope it will be in place after April 12,” Madyar said.<\/p>\n The leader of “Tisa” did not rule out direct negotiations with the President of Russia<\/p>\n “Of course, if that\u2019s the case, we will have to sit down for negotiations with the President of Russia,” he said.<\/p>\n At the same time, Madyar explained his logic:<\/p>\n “If necessary, we will negotiate, but we will not become friends,” the future prime minister emphasized.<\/p>\n According to Madyar, the new government will focus on the real problems of Hungarians, rather than on foreign policy games.<\/p>\n It should be noted that Madyar’s party “Tisa” won a convincing victory in the parliamentary elections on April 12, securing 138 out of 199 seats in parliament. Voter turnout was nearly 80% – a record for Hungary since the collapse of the socialist bloc.<\/p>\n Orban acknowledged defeat. As RBC-Ukraine reported, Orban’s support did not help even with the open backing from the White House and the Kremlin.<\/p>\n Peter Madyar is a lawyer and a former ally of Orban, who finally broke with the “Fidesz” party in 2024 due to a scandal involving presidential pardons.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n As RBC-Ukraine reported, he positions himself as a pro-European politician, but takes a cautious stance regarding Ukraine: he recognizes Russia as an aggressor but opposes arms supplies and the expedited accession of Ukraine to the EU and NATO.<\/p>\n In his first address after the victory, Madyar demanded the resignation of the country’s president, Tamas Shuyok, and all of Orban’s appointees in key positions.<\/p>\n He also promised to immediately travel to Brussels to unblock frozen EU funding.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The politician did not rule out negotiations with Putin.
