US President Donald Trump promised to pardon officials from his administration before leaving office to protect them from potential future prosecutions.<\/p>\n

Read also: <\/strong>Trump put an end to the question of pardoning Maduro<\/p>\n According to sources, Trump spoke with advisors in the dining room near the Oval Office a year ago and stated that he would hold a press conference and announce mass pardons before he ceased to be president.<\/p>\n “I will pardon everyone who got within 200 feet of the Oval Office,” the president said at another recent meeting.<\/p>\n As WSJ sources explained, Trump has repeatedly raised the issue of pardons during conversations with White House aides and other officials.<\/p>\n This was especially true when staff hinted that they might face legal prosecution or congressional investigation due to decisions made.<\/p>\n According to WSJ, Trump is known for joking about topics that he later takes seriously. Thus, his frequent mentions of this issue led some aides to believe that the US leader is serious about pardons.<\/p>\n At the same time, several aides stated that Trump brings up the topic of pardons so often that some of his advisors now laugh about it.<\/p>\n Former administration officials also reported that Trump considered pardoning White House officials after the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, at the end of his first term in office. However, he ultimately did not do so. Later, Trump told his advisors that he should have issued pardons.<\/p>\n It is worth noting that after returning to the White House in 2025, Trump granted approximately 1,600 pardons. Of these, about 1,500 pardoned individuals were accused of connections to the events of January 6.<\/p>\n Additionally, the publication cited another of Trump’s promises made during his first term. At one point during his presidency, he hinted to immigration service staff that he would pardon them if they instructed border officials to physically prevent migrants from entering the country. However, former officials say they did not take this suggestion seriously.<\/p>\n Trump’s Pardons<\/p>\n Returning to the topic of pardoning about 1,500 people, it is worth mentioning that one of Trump’s supporters declined a pardon, calling it a disregard for the rule of law.
