A ceasefire in the Middle East creates new opportunities for global security, and stabilizing the region directly undermines the Kremlin’s ability to finance aggression.<\/p>\n “Even the announcement of a ceasefire has allowed the markets to react positively – the price of oil has decreased. And this is simultaneously the right signal regarding Russia – that besides our long-range sanctions, other tools will also work,” Zelensky emphasized.<\/p>\n Russia will no longer be able to manipulate the issue of energy resource shortages. Previously, calls to ease sanctions were justified by problems in the oil market, but now this argument is disappearing, he said.<\/p>\n Zelensky also noted that it was the Kremlin that was interested in destabilizing the Middle East. A prolonged war in that region played into the hands of the Russians, as it allowed them to profit from high prices and distract the world’s attention.<\/p>\n “Oil fuels the Russian war and makes Russia feel confident. And that is why the Russians invested so much in supporting the Iranian regime and tried to prolong that war. If the Hormuz Strait can be unblocked – which is a global necessity – Russian oil revenues should continue to decline,” the Ukrainian leader concluded.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n What is known about the situation around the Hormuz Strait<\/p>\n Recall that the U.S. and Iran have reached preliminary agreements to reduce tensions and establish a ceasefire for two weeks. However, the U.S. is already expressing new conditions for unblocking the strait, refusing to allow Iran to collect fees for the passage of vessels.<\/p>\n According to media reports, the first direct negotiations between Washington and Tehran since the start of the war are scheduled for Friday, April 10.
