Ukrainian female hockey players concluded the 2026 World Championship with an emotional clash against the Lithuanians. Despite having lost their chances for promotion earlier after a defeat to Hong Kong, the final second place in the standings was at stake. The fate of the match was decided in a shootout.<\/p>\n

However, in the second period, the team coached by Yevgeny Alipov showed character. Four minutes into the twenty-minute period, Valeria Manchak-Ensen equalized the score, and just three minutes later, Radmila Vedmedenko scored the second goal – 2:1.<\/p>\n Lithuania managed to equalize in the third period. Regulation time and overtime did not reveal a winner, although in the last minute of extra time, the Ukrainians had a 100% chance to close the game.<\/p>\n The Penalty Lottery<\/p>\n In the shootout, Ukrainian goalkeeper Yuliana Vilhan did everything possible, saving the first three attempts of the opponents.<\/p>\n However, the Lithuanians were able to score twice. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian hockey players failed to convert any of their four penalty shots, which determined the outcome of the match.<\/p>\n Tournament Results<\/p>\n After this game, Ukraine dropped to third place in the standings, finishing the championship with 10 points. Lithuania secured second place with 11 points, while the “gold” and a ticket to Division 2A went to the Hong Kong team.<\/p>\n Our team remains in Division 2B for the third consecutive year.
