Porochenko’s claims of alleged pressure on the court regarding sanctions deemed unfounded <\/p>\n
The statements made by the fifth president of Ukraine, Petro Porochenko, about alleged pressure on the court concerning the appeal of the sanctions imposed on him appear to be an emotional escalation ahead of the next court hearing.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
This was stated in a comment to RBC-Ukraine by Irina Mudra, the deputy head of the President’s Office.<\/p>\n

Mudra noted that Ukraine operates under the constitutional principle of judicial independence, and no official, including herself, has the authority or desire to influence judicial decisions or the proceedings of specific cases.<\/p>\n “At the same time, it is worth reminding that during Petro Porochenko’s presidency, the Ukrainian legal system was repeatedly subjected to justified criticism regarding political influence on law enforcement and judicial bodies.<\/p>\n That is why today the state is consistently changing its approaches – from informal influence practices during 2014-2019 to a clear institutional model based on the rule of law, procedural autonomy of the court, and accountability of each body within its competence,” – the deputy head of the President’s Office explained.<\/p>\n She also emphasized that her role as the deputy head of the President’s Office of Ukraine is solely to form the legal position of the side representing the interests of the state. This, according to Mudra, is a legal position aimed at protecting the legality of decisions made by the current president of Ukraine.<\/p>\n “Such activities are normal and provided for in legal practice in any democratic state and cannot in any way be interpreted as influencing the court. Public political statements create a risk of pressure on the court itself and undermine trust in the judicial process, but it seems that this is precisely the goal pursued by the fifth President of Ukraine,” – Mudra clarified.<\/p>\n According to her, today the principled position of the state remains unchanged: the court must make decisions solely based on the law and evidence, regardless of political assessments or informational pressure.<\/p>\n “This is the approach we are consistently implementing and will continue to uphold,” – Mudra commented.<\/p>\n Sanctions against Porochenko<\/p>\n Recall that in February 2025, President Volodymyr Zelensky enacted a decision by the National Security and Defense Council regarding personal sanctions against several individuals, including Petro Porochenko.<\/p>\n The sanctions include the deprivation of state awards, blocking of assets, restrictions on trade operations, transit, flights, and transportation through Ukraine, as well as preventing the outflow of capital abroad. They are applied indefinitely.<\/p>\n In the same year, the Cassation Administrative Court as part of the Supreme Court began reviewing Porochenko’s lawsuit challenging these sanctions.<\/p>\n Today, April 3, the Supreme Court hearing did not take place due to the absence of judges.
