Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz appears to be continuing, despite Iran declaring it blocked. A number of countries have received permission from Iran for their flagged vessels to exit.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Aliki, which is transporting about 650,000 barrels of Saudi crude oil to Pakistan. The vessel took the northern route, passing literally between the Iranian islands of Larak and Qeshm.<\/p>\n In addition, Iran has allowed the exit of seven Malaysian tankers that had been blocked in the Persian Gulf for a long time. Quite unexpectedly, Tehran also agreed to let another 20 vessels under the Pakistani flag pass through the strait.<\/p>\n The total number of commercial vessels passing through Hormuz is currently only slightly above pre-war levels. However, analysis is complicated by the fact that AIS (Automatic Identification System) signals are often jammed by obstacles.<\/p>\n Moreover, the situation is actively exploited by Iran’s “shadow fleet.” Tankers linked to Iran are frequently turning off their transponders. According to some estimates, the average flow of this “invisible” oil in March was about 1.6 million barrels per day.<\/p>\n Separately, the exit from the Gulf of the tanker Tawanna has been recorded. This vessel is under sanctions from the US, UK, and EU for participating in the trade of Russian oil. In March, it was loaded with Iranian crude on Kharg Island.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Iran has blocked the Strait of Hormuz<\/p>\n As is known, Iran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz in response to the military operation by the US and Israel. Since up to 20% of the world’s oil supplies pass through it, the blockade has led to an energy crisis and rising oil prices.<\/p>\n However, some countries have managed to negotiate with Iran for the passage of tankers through the strait. In particular, Tehran recently agreed to allow 20 vessels under the Pakistani flag to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n Prior to this, Thai Prime Minister Agutin Charnvirakul stated that the country had reached an agreement with Iran for the safe passage of Thai oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n Saudi Arabia, it was believed, took a different route. For the first time in history, the country has fully activated its strategic East-West oil pipeline.
