U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio called “a lie” the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding security guarantees in exchange for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbas.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, Rubio made this statement during a press conference.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

I saw how he said it, and it’s disappointing that he speaks this way because he knows it’s not true<\/strong>“, Rubio emphasized.<\/p>\n The U.S. Secretary of State stated that the Ukrainian authorities were given a different explanation. He noted that it was about the fact that security guarantees “would not come into effect until the war is over”<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Rubio stressed that this was not related to a demand for concessions.<\/p>\n “But it was not related to the condition ‘unless he gives up territory.’ I don’t know why he says such things. It’s simply not true,” he noted.<\/p>\n What preceded this<\/p>\n On Wednesday, March 25, Zelensky stated that the U.S. set a condition under which Ukraine must withdraw its troops from Donbas to receive security guarantees.<\/p>\n According to the Ukrainian president, Washington is ready to finalize these guarantees “at a high level” as soon as Kyiv is prepared to take this step. Zelensky warned that this would jeopardize the security of both Ukraine and Europe.<\/p>\n The issue of Donbas in negotiations<\/p>\n It is worth noting that in 2026, Ukraine, with the mediation of the U.S., already held several rounds of negotiations with Russia. The parties have not been able to reach an agreement regarding the ceasefire itself, as the aggressor country wants the surrender of the unoccupied Donbas, which Kyiv does not agree to.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Additionally, Zelensky rejected any exchange of Donbas territory for other regions.
